News Letter No. 6
General Foot and Mouth Foot and mouth disease dominates most
people's thoughts these days. Fortunately we are set in the middle of arable
fields with no near contact with stock so we should have no reason to close. To
be doubly sure we have a disinfected pad at the entrance for people to drive
over and a boot dip at reception which we ask you to use.
Rod Licences
Don't forget rod licences are due for renewal on 1st April.
Prices have gone up slightly, costing £21.00 for a still water coarse and trout
licence and £59.00 for a game licence. Disabled, pensioners and junior licences
at half price or £2.50 for a day ticket.
Troutmaster Competition
Sunday 18th March saw the Bake heat of the Troutmaster final
which was closely contested. Tony Saul goes through to the final to represent us
at Graffham with a total weight for 4 fish of 18lb 3oz. Second was Richard
Lister who also took the biggest fish of 8lb with a 17lb 7oz total. James Green
who bagged up in an incredible 30 minutes was third with 17lb 4oz. Just a pity
about the weather which was bitingly cold but at least dry.
Fly Fisherman of the Year Competition
Roger Prowse is in the lead with what is probably an
unassailable 617 points, 335 points ahead of Tony Dyson in second. Bob Tetley
did his points tally no harm by breaking the lake record with a 12lb 13oz
rainbow.
Vranch House
April 8th sees the Bake heat of the Vranch House
competition to raise money for the Devon and Exeter Spastics Society. Anyone
wishing to fish for this very worthy cause, please give me a ring for a
sponsorship form or support those who have entered. Last year we raised an
incredible £2488.25. Let's beat it this year.
Bitterly cold winds have made fishing difficult but better
weights have been coming out recently as the temperature rises.
Our Open Competitions on the last Sunday of the month have
been well received, although weights caught have been disappointing. In the
league table Chris Brown leads the way with 25 points followed by Mac McClean on
20 and Mick Crocker on 16.
Young Christopher Carpenter is leading the juniors with 14
points. Well done, Christopher.
Date of the next competition is Sunday, April 29th then we
revert to the last Wednesday evening of the next 4 months fishing from 6pm to
9pm. At this time of the year I look to frogs and toads to predict the coming
weather. As they are laying in deep water this year I am predicting a hot, dry
summer!
